GUEST PERFORMER - LAURENCE JUBER
Laurence Juber has been playing guitar for nearly 40 years, and was the Lead guitarist in Paul McCartney's band, Wings, winning a "Best Rock Instrumental" Grammy for the song, "Rockestra". However, Laurence, best known to his fans as "LJ", has since established himself as an artist in his own right, and has recently extended his catalog to NINE acoustic guitar instrumental CD's, all featuring his unique fingerstyle technique and extensive use of alternate tunings.
His latest release is 'Different Times' (September 2001), recorded at Hollywood's legendary Capitol Studios, featuresdrums by jazz great Peter Erskine. His two previous releases (March 2000) are an album of his arrangements of Beatle songs, 'LJ Plays The Beatles', as well as a 'Collection' of Laurence's most requested songs.
In March 1999 LJ released 'Altered Reality', part of the "Masters of Acoustic Guitar" series from Narada Records. His previous album, 'Mosaic' (1998), showcases his playing on acoustic and electric guitar in a variety of trio, duo, and solo settings. Additionally, his recording of the composition, "Liquid Amber", is featured on the Windham Hill CD, Sounds of Wood and Steel.
LJ tours extensively in support of these CDs with concert and clinic dates in the United States and Europe. He is also featured in collaboration with the unique guitar stylist, Preston Reed, on 'Groovemasters' Vol 1, and with singer-songwriter Al Stewart on "Between the Wars". LJ also produced Al's latest CD "Down In The Cellar".
Laurence also enjoys continued success as a studio guitarist. He has worked on scores of television shows, (including Home Improvement, Boy Meets World, and 7th Heaven), films (the 'Academy Award' - winning Good Will Hunting, Dirty Dancing and Pocahontas), and record albums (including Ringo Starr, Alan Parsons, Paul Williams, Al Stewart, Belinda Carlisle, The Monkees, and Lou Rawls).
Juber with his wife, Hope, have composed the score to 'Gilligan's Island, the Musical', recently produced to rave reviews in Los Angeles. His 'Magellan Suite' for Guitar and String Quartet is a musical highlight of the new 'Disney Sea' theme park in Tokyo, Japan. He is currently co-composing with Snuffy Walden the score to NBC-TV's returning comedy 'Three Sisters'.
