Live performance can be a nerve-wracking experience, but it gets easier and less stressful with practice. Seek out local open mic nights, jams, and musicians’ circles. You’re sure to find supportive and fun communities to share and hone your artistry with! Your first time on stage might be scary but rest assured: your Martin guitar is right at home up there with you!

Check your neck relief with two hands. Use your right hand's pinky to press the sixth string at the 12th fret, and with your left hand press the sixth string at the first fret. Then with your right hand’s index finger you can gauge how much “bounce” the sixth string has at the seventh fret. A small amount of “bounce” (the thickness of a sheet of paper) is the preference of most players.

Casual players may need to change strings every 1-2 months. Professional players who love the sound of crisp, new strings may want to change strings after a few performances or before every performance.
