Earth Day 2026 at Martin Guitar: Protecting What Inspires Us
A new Biosphere® guitar, a closer look at our impact, and a reminder that it’s all connected
Earth Day at Martin Guitar is never just one day—it’s a reflection of everything that goes into what we do year-round. The woods we use, the partners we support, the choices we make—it all starts with the planet.
So every April 22, we take a moment to step back, share what we’ve been working on, and celebrate the connection between music and the natural world.
This year, that means introducing the all-new 00L Biosphere IV, releasing our latest Impact Report, and spending some time talking about why all of it matters.
Meet the 00L Biosphere IV: A Story of Protection
At the center of this year’s Earth Day celebration is a guitar that tells a powerful story—one that unfolds in one of the harshest environments on Earth.
The 00L Biosphere IV shines a spotlight on emperor penguins and the fragile Antarctic ecosystems they depend on. Featuring original artwork by Robert Goetzl, the guitar captures a parent shielding its chick from the wind—standing firm against the elements in a moment that feels both quiet and incredibly strong.
It’s a scene that stuck with Robert as he dug into the lives of emperor penguins.
“When your environment is at threat, you feel very protective of your offspring… and the creatures around you that need protecting,” he explains.
That instinct—to protect, to endure, to care for what matters—became the heart of this piece.
Built entirely from FSC®-certified woods, the 00L Biosphere IV pairs that message with responsibly sourced materials, including a Sitka spruce top, sapele back and sides, and flamed maple binding. It’s a guitar designed to be played, shared, and talked about—because the more people connect with the story, the more it can do.
As part of this year’s release, we’re proud to support the Global Penguin Society, helping advance their work protecting penguins, preserving coastal ecosystems, and educating communities around the world.
Watch: Chris Martin IV & Robert Goetzl on Earth Day
To dig a little deeper into the story behind this year’s guitar—and why Earth Day continues to matter—we sat down with Chairman of the Board Chris Martin IV and Robert.
They talk about the inspiration behind the Biosphere guitars, the importance of conservation, and how instruments like this can spark curiosity, awareness, and action.
Impact You Can See (and Hear)
Of course, Earth Day is also about looking at the bigger picture.
Each year, our Impact Report gives us a chance to measure the work we’re doing across sustainability, community support, and environmental responsibility—and to keep pushing forward.
Here are a few highlights from this year’s report:
- 103 grants awarded, totaling $594,750
- $35,000+ in donated instruments supporting music and environmental causes
- First Martin Sustainability Summit held
- Six new instruments built with sustainable, domestically abundant tonewoods
- 200+ tons of recycled material across Martin facilities
Progress doesn’t happen overnight—but step by step, it adds up.
You can watch a full video recap of this year’s Impact Report below and explore everything in more detail.
It’s All Connected
If there’s one idea that keeps coming up every Earth Day, it’s this: everything is connected.
The forests that give us tonewoods. The ecosystems that support life around the world. The communities that keep music alive. The players who pick up a guitar and turn it into something meaningful.
The Biosphere guitars are just one way we try to tell those stories—one piece of a much larger picture.
And like Robert puts it, it’s kind of like a quilt. Each piece represents something different, but together, it forms a bigger image of the world we all share.
So whether it’s through the guitars we build, the partnerships we support, or the choices we make every day, we’re committed to doing our part—and inviting you to do the same.
Play it. Share it. Talk about it.
Because the more people who care, the more we can protect what inspires us all.
Until next time—happy playing!
