New York, New York - New Orleans legends The Preservation Hall Jazz Band will play at Ace Hotel New York as part of 5 at 5, our ongoing music series in collaboration with Martin Guitar and Show Cobra. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band has been a vital part of the preservation and proliferation of traditional New Orleans Jazz since their formation in 1963.
On Wednesday, August 5, the band will be conducting a live Education Outreach at Ace Hotel, starting with a private morning master class with students from the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. This rare exchange between New Orleans jazz masters and some of New York City's most promising young jazz musicians will culminate in a special live session.
At noon, the students and Preservation Hall mentors will take over Liberty Hall for an open jam session, filling the room with a particular brand of soul and vibrancy rarely heard outside of New Orleans city limits.
The 12pm jam session is free with RSVP and open to the public. Capacity is limited.
About Preservation Hall Jazz Band
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, the venerable music venue located in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, founded in 1961 by Allan and Sandra Jaffe. The band has traveled worldwide spreading their mission to nurture and perpetuate the art form of New Orleans Jazz. Whether performing at Carnegie Hall or Lincoln Center, for British Royalty or the King of Thailand, this music embodies a joyful, timeless spirit. Under the auspices of current director, Ben Jaffe, the son of founders Allan and Sandra, Preservation Hall continues with a deep reverence and consciousness of its greatest attributes in the modern day asa venue, band, and record label.
